Yasnaya Polyana — Estate of Leo Tolstoy - Russia 2010 Sunday, Day 16

This was the last place we visited when we went to Tula, Russia on Sunday. This is the estate of Leo Tolstoy (author of famous Novel, War and Peace). known as Yasnaya Polyana, located approximately 12 kilometers south of Tula. Once we arrived, we had to walk up a beautiful snow-covered road to Tolstoy's home. The home (museum) closed at 3, so we did not get to take the inside tour. After walking around the home, we then made a (at least) mile-long journey through the snow to see his tomb. The setting is surely real nice in the summer as his tomb is at the top of a large ravine. However, it was odd that there was nothing there but the actual stone for the grave. I have not researched it yet, but I wonder if this was his wish. The estate was really nice with all of the snow, but i am sure in the spring it will be really nice too.
