Today we had an excursion just on the southwest side of Moscow to a company named "Ochakovo," which makes beer and soft drinks, including an extremely popular Russian drink called Kvas. For years, Kvas has been sold in smaller Russian cities in the Spring and Summer in yellow tanks on wheels, where the liquid was dispensed into cups and jars from a small spigot. You can see one of the traditional Kvas tanks in the next to the last picture in the slideshow.
This company is all Russian owned and began in 1998. They took us on a tour of some of the brewing process and a small museum about the company. I think the students really learned a lot and enjoyed the tour. When we wrapped up, we went into the store where they had many of their items for pretty good prices.
